Judith A. Veron of Coaldale was recently named one of the Nightingale Awards 2011 Scholarship recipients.

She will be honored by the Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania during its 22nd Annual Gala on Nov. 4, at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel and Convention Center in Camp Hill.

Veron's scholarship will help her complete the Penn State Practical Nursing Program. She is among the first graduating class of the program and will graduate as an LPN this November.

Veron credit's her mother, Bernice, for her desire to be a nurse, and Patrice Rimbey, coordinator of the Penn State Practial Nursing Program, for sponsoring her for the scholarship.

To obtain the scholarship, she had to write a letter, stating why she wanted to become a nurse. Her letter focused on the importance of family; her personal experiences; and her desire to help others, like so many nurses did when they helped her during her fight against breast cancer.

In addition to classes on evenings and weekends, Veron has been a nurse's aid for 32 years, and is currently employed full-time at the Carbon County Commissioners' Office as the postage coordinator.

She graduated from Weatherly Area High School in 1977.

Veron is the daughter of the late James E. and Bernice I. (Kropp) Henry. She is married to Joseph M. Veron and they have three children, Justin M. Veron, Jeanine M. Snyder, and Julia M. Veron, all of Coaldale; as well as five grandchildren, McKenzie, Ridge, Henry, Mallory and Benjamin.
