Class of 1943

The Tamaqua High School Class of 1943 is planning a 68-year anniversary reunion for this summer. The event will be held June 18 at the Owl Creek Reservoir and will include a picnic style luncheon.

Rush bloodmobile

The Rush Township Bicentennial Committee will sponsor an American Red Cross Bloodmobile on April 5, from 1-6 p.m., at the township municipal building.

Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in general good health is eligible to donate blood. Donor cards or proper identification will be required.

Appointments for donors can be made by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.

Correction

First Friday observances SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will be split this month. Communion calls will be made Thursday, April 7 to residents of Hometown and Coaldale.

Cheerleader sign ups

Registrations for the Tamaqua Knee High Cheerleader Association will be held this Saturday, at 10 a.m, at the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise, 222 E. Broad St. Participation is open to all girls eligible for kindergarten in the fall, through students in seventh grade.

Jack and Jill

The Tamaqua YMCA's Jack and Jill Pre-School is now accepting applications for the 2011-2012 school year. Preschool programs are open to children between the ages of 3-5. The four programs will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

North/Middle ward

The North and Middle Ward Playground Association will meet April 4, at 6 p.m., in the playground concession stand. Topics to be discussed include an Easter Egg hunt and summer events.

New members are always welcome.

Lenten service

The Tamaqua ministerium will sponsor a series of free Community Lenten services leading up to Easter. The services will begin at noon and will be followed by light luncheons.

Upcoming services and locations will be: April 6, St. Jerome's Catholic Church, 266 W. Broad St.; and April 13, Tamaqua Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St.

A Community Good Friday service will be held April 22, at noon, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St. This service will not be followed by a luncheon.

St. Jerome's

St. Jerome's Office of Adult Formation will host a free simple soup supper on April 7, prior to Stations of the Cross. Doors to the school gym will open at 5:30 p.m., with Stations scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend and enjoy a free bowl of homemade soup. The next free coffee and donut session will be held April 17, Palm Sunday.

New catechists are needed for the parish religious education program in the fall. Classes are held Sundays, from 9 to 10:15 p.m. Anyone willing to volunteer to teach the third or sixth grade class may call (570) 668-4416.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include a children's message. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

A special piano concert, featuring Harry Strack Jr., will be presented April 10, at 4 p.m., at Christ Church, McKeansburg.

Fitness for Friends, a community exercise class, meets Mondays and Thursdays, 6-7 p.m., in the social hall.

First Methodist

The Rev. James Cavalerro will officiate at two worship services Sunday: 9:30 a.m. at Salem United Methodist, and 10:45 a.m. at First United Methodist Church. Both services will include Holy Communion. Children's Sunday school will be offered at First Church.

First Methodist activities for next week include: Monday, recovery from addiction program meets at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, senior choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.

A Lenten Christian Development Series will begin March 13 and run for six consecutive weeks. The 6 p.m. workshops will be preceded by covered dish socials.

The Herald Biblical Theater Company will present "His Last Days" at First Church on April 8, at 8 p.m.
