DUI task force releases stats

The North Central Pa. Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce and Expanded DUI/Underage Drinking Enforcement Program has released the following statistics from a sobriety checkpoint and roving patrols held in Schuylkill County last weekend.

The check point was set up on Sept. 10 in West Mahanoy Township with officers contacting a total of 271 vehicles. Of the 38 motorists detained, three operators were tested, with two adults and one juvenile arrested, for driving under the influence of alcohol. Officers also made two underage drinking arrests, issued 24 traffic and two seat belt citations and issued 17 warnings. Six county law enforcement agencies were represented by 13 officers.A Roving DUI patrol was conducted on Sept. 22, when officers from four departments contacted and detained 40 drivers. There were no DUI related arrests. Officers also issued eight traffic citations and issued 33 warnings.A Roving DUI patrol was also conducted on Sept. 23, when officers from five departments contacted and detained 50 drivers. There were no DUI related arrests. Officers also issued ten traffic citations, made two criminal arrests and issued 40 warnings.Roving patrols and sobriety checkpoints will also be conducted through Oct. 3 on state routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 309, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.Travelers are reminded to dial 911 if they suspect a drunk driver.To report underage drinking, call 1-888-UNDER21.The sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols are funded through the state Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
