All-State

Two former TIMES NEWS area baseball players were recently named to the All-State Teams by the Pennsylvania High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Pleasant Valley's Pat Kregeloh and Marian's Drew Sherkness were named to the first and second teams respectively for their class. Kregeloh was named as one of the pitchers on the AAAA/AAA first team, while Sherkness was selected as a second-team first basemen for the AA-A squad.Kregeloh, who was a two-time TIMES NEWS Baseball Player of the Year, re-wrote some Pleasant Valley varsity baseball records in his final year of high school. Kregeloh helped last year's team set a school record for wins in a season (22) and was a key part in the Bears winning its first District 11 title since 1984. The Bears also win their first Mountain Valley Conference title since 2006.Individually, Kregeloh posted an 8-1 record during the dual championship of a year while sporting a ERA of 0.41 (three rearned runs in 50 ), which is a school record. In the batter's box, Kregeloh posted some fine numbers .408 batting average (29-for-71), .558 on-base percentage and hit a program's second best eight home runs, 29 RBIs and scored 32 (tied with teammate Derrik Walling for a single-season record). Kregeloh also owns a program mark in career homeruns with 21.Sherkness became the second Marian Catholic baseball player be be named to the All-State team. The first Colt to receive state-wide recognition was kevin mcnavage back in 1995, in which he received First Team honors as an outfielder.Sherkness was one of four Colt players to play in all 22 games last season. After completing those 22 games, Sherkness compiled some lofty numbers leading the team in RBIs (36), homeruns (8) and total bases (56). He finished second in a number of categories as well at-bats (64), hits (tied with 25), doubles (tied with five), triples (1) and bases on balls (tied with 12).Also making the first team from District 11 were David Rosenberger (P, So., ACC) and Tyler Vail (P, Sr., Notre Dame GP).Second teamers included Justin Pacchiolo (C, So., Easton), Connor Faust (3B, Jr., ACC), Ryan Boyer (P, Sr., Pine Grove), Collin McGee (C, So., Schuylkill Haven) and Dylan Evans (OF, So., Pen Argyl).
