Schuylkill County checkpoint results

The North Central Pa. Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce and Expanded DUI/Underage Drinking Enforcement Program has released the following statistics from sobriety checkpoints held this past weekend in Schuylkill County.

On Sept. 17, officers conducted a check point in St. Clair and contacted a total of 1,431 vehicles. Of the 42 motorists detained, three operators were tested, with three adults arrested, for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol. Officers also issued 10 traffic citations and issued 31 warnings. Six county law enforcement agencies were represented by 12 officers.A check point was held Sept. 18 in Schuylkill Township, with four departments represented by eight officers. A total of 267 vehicles were contacted and 18 motorists were detained. One operator was tested and arrested for possible driving under the influence of alcohol. Officers issued six traffic citations and ten warnings.Sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols will also be conducted through Sept. 27 on state routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 309, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.Travelers are reminded to dial 911 if they suspect a drunk driver.To report underage drinking, call 1-888-UNDER21.The sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols are funded through the state Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
