A benefit baseball game, pitting the 15-year-old boys from Northern Lehigh and Northwestern high schools against Northern Lehigh softball players, will be played next Saturday (Sept. 25) at the Walnutport playground to benefit Dream Come True.

The 15th annual Dream Come True benefit game will begin at 5:30 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, Sept. 26) at 2 p.m.Garry Andrews, spokesman, said that in previous years the event usually raises between $3,000 and $4,000 but one year, it raised nearly $6,000.The Walnutport Playground Association provides all the food and the facility for free."When anyone buys a soft drink, the entire price of the drink goes to Dream Come True," said Andrews.Andrews said the event was started when he and Gail Trescott wanted to hold a fundraiser and selected Dream Come True as the recipient.This year's chairmen are Julie Wagaman, a college student; and Tamara Stuoits and Zach Polanski, seniors at Northern Lehigh High School.Andrews said that Wendy Filchner, who sets up the refreshment stand, is his unsung hero."This event would not be possible without Wendy," said Andrews. "She gets it ready and the student volunteers run the stand."He also credited Brian Filchner, coach of the Girl's Softball Team and Greg King, a teacher at Northern Lehigh High School and head coach of the junior varsity team, for helping organize the event."The event also wouldn't be possible without the help of Nick Hawkey, who is a board member of Dream Come True," Andrews said.
