The Tamaqua Beautification Association and South Ward Neighborhood Committee are sponsoring a litter cleanup in the Borough of Tamaqua on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 8:30 a.m. until noon. The cleanup is being held in conjunction with the countywide Schuylkill...Keep It Pretty (SKIP) Fall Campaign. Joining the two community groups will be Tamaqua Area School District students and concerned residents.

Volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. at either the M&T Bank parking lot, East Broad and Center streets, or the South Ward Playground, 230 Race St. Volunteers will then target the downtown and South Ward areas, including Broad Street, Center Street, Cottage Avenue, Hegarty Avenue, Mauch Chunk Street, Rowe Street, Spruce Street, Penn Street, Orwigsburg Street, Van Gelder Street and Stadium Hill. If enough people volunteer, additional streets will be added to the target areas.

Tamaqua residents and business owners may lend a hand by cleaning their sidewalks and properties that day.

Garbage bags, safety vests, gloves and complimentary beverages will be provided. Trash bags must then be placed beside a state highway for collection purposes. Trash may also be disposed of in a dumpster located at the rear of the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St.

The fall 2010 cleanup is sponsored by SKIP and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
