As part of the Palmerton Area Historical Society's 20th birthday celebration, the September event will be an open house at the society's archives in the Palmerton Borough Hall.
On Sunday, Sept. 19, from 2-4 p.m., the public is invited to a PowerPoint program, tour of the facilities and light refreshments. Many people are not aware of the existence of this site.
Take this opportunity to learn all about the steps through which a donation goes once it enters into the society's care.
A free community meal will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 5-6:30 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton. All are invited for a free meal and fellowship.
Tail Waggin' Tutors
The Tail Waggin' Tutors program will return to the Palmerton Area Library Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. After a summer break, the dogs and handlers will be back to listen to children read out loud. The program will continue throughout the school year on the second Saturday of each month. If your child would like to meet the dogs and practice their reading skills, call the library at (610) 826-3424 for more information. The program is free for all children, but parents must call in advance to reserve a time slot.
The Palmerton Area Library is starting a new Volunteer Program. Ask at the desk for a volunteer packet to sign up to shelve books, work in the book sale, decorate the display window, adopt a shelf, help with the teen group, etc. Individuals must be at least 13 years old to participate.
Health and Services Fair
S.S. Palmer/Parkside and Towamensing PTO's Annual Health and Services Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Palmerton Area High School. Local professionals will provide free information and screenings.
The board of directors of the Palmerton Area Library will meet at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 15 at the library. Meetings are open to the public.
