Car rear-ends loaded school bus, student hurt

A car rear-ended a loaded school bus, leaving one student injured.

State police at Lehighton said the crash occurred about 8:20 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 18, along Kunkletown Road, near Lakeview Drive, in Ross Township, Monroe County.Troopers said the school bus of the Pocono Mountain School District, was stopped with its red lights activated and was picking up students when it was struck by a 2010 Honda Accord operated by Michael C. Walz, 47, of Saylorsburg.One student, a 9-year-old, was injured and taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for treatment. The bus driver, David Forte, 51, of Kunkletown, 11 other students, and Walz, were not injured. Troopers said the uninjured students were transferred to another bus and taken to the Polk Township elementary school.Troopers cited Walz for meeting or overtaking a school bus.
