Dear Editor:
Recently McDonald's threatened to drop its health care insurance for its employees. A recent cartoon in the Times News referred to this threat.
It might be noted that one of the main plans McDonald's offers its employees requires them to pay roughly $730 a year for health benefits up to $2,000. Since one night in the hospital or one MRI may cost more than $2,000, this is only a little better (if that) than no insurance at all.
It is this kind of plan that makes the health care reform so necessary.

There's no dispute that health care reform was needed for certain situations (ie. denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions). But, the health care reform that has been forced upon us is going to bury our grandchildren with the costs attached to it. I really wish that, AT LEAST, half of the lawmakers appointed to office would have AT LEAST READ the massive piece of legislation that they voted for. It's a prime example of how lazy our society has become.
But, it's ok because we'll just chalk it up to some people who bust their tails for their insurance packages as being "luckier" than others. Nevermind, they have to sacrifice and not get to see their kids for more than 2 - 3 hours a day because of their demanding work schedule.
There are two types of people in this world. Those who WORK for what they have and those who steal. Our president has stolen from us, our children, their children, their children's children, etc. It's a shame and I worry for my son.
Want to understand the bill.. go to this link right here and read all about the health care reform you fear..
Learn what benefits it has to you and to your family.. before you pass judgement know what you are talking about.

It's not perfect.. but it is far better than doing nothing and it can only improve from here.
All the things your tout is what they, htose that opposed medicare, said about medicare over 30 years ago.. and here we are today.. still standing..
What makes you think that just because you have a great medical benefit package that you work harder than someone that doesn't?
REally.. you can't be that nieve to the world.
If hard work got you what you were supposed to get, or what our parents always taught us hard work would get us.. well we wouldn't have any problems.
But , let me tell you something, .. hard work does NOT get you what it got our parents and the generation before them. Just look at the dissappearing middle class.
AND health care system is a BIG part of the reason the middle class is dwindling.
Uninsured have GROWN leaps and bounds over the last 20 years and costs for medical procedures, etc. have grown even faster. 4x's faster than the rate of inflation.
Your comments are disgusting and show true ignorance by many who have no freaking clue what they are talking about.
You tell me this.. why has, in a time of economic "Boom" before this recession has middle income wages actuall DECREASED! Has NOTHING to do with how hard we work.
Want to worry about the future generations and spending.. then how about NOT engaging in wars that we had no business waging and the BILLIONS of dollars that cost us. HOw about not bailing out rich fat cat CEO's and their failed business policies?
How about NOT giving tax breaks to the people in top 1% which would cost this country 700B!!! FAR MORE than what health care reform costs!!!
Guess what.. the people you'd wantto call "lazy" are already receiving FREE health care.. it's called Medicaid!! Hell , our prisoners get better health care than some of the hardest working middle class people I know.
The LARGEST number of uninsured individuals and growing are the WORKING middle c lass.. these are NOT people that are sitting home on the couch collecting a government check. These are people that are taking time away from their children as much as you are to go earn a paycheck. Hell, most middle income households now have to have TWO parents working to even MAINTAIN a resemblence of what middle class is/was when we were growing up.
Health care and access to it is NOT a luxury, yet we treat it as a luxury item. Often times premiums for insurance cost more than a monthly mortgage payment or rent.
WAKE UP man! If we do NOTHING what our kids would inherit is a third world nation where access to health care is ONLY for the very wealthy and the rest of us would just be left to die, beg or steal to get it.
Want to concern yourself about what we are leaving our children.. then stop the wars. Why are we, acountry so far in debt, always handing out money to other countries while many of our own hard working people are dying..YES DYING from access to health care?
Lets stop the corporate take over of our country.. we the corporations for hte corporations seems to be the motto of our country these days.. and at middle income working peoples expense!
You are right.. and thank you!
