Have you hit the summer doldrums yet?

In a month we'll be shopping for back-to-school items, so plan some activities today.Here are some inexpensive and even free ideas.|FOR THE OUTDOORSMAN:Glen Onoko Falls: Hike Jim Thorpe's own trail along the Broad Mountain, accessible from Coalport Road. One word of caution: Stay on the path.Hickory Run State Park, White Haven: Choose your trek at Lake Harmony from over 40 miles of hiking trails. Don't forget Boulder Field, which is a National Natural Landmark.Lacawac Sanctuary: Enjoy Lake Wallenpaupack as well as a 2.9 mile hike at Sanctuary Road, Lake Ariel.Promised Land State Park: Pike County offers a loop around Bruce Lake, but it's a long one: 7.5 miles.Salt Springs State Park: Perhaps the 1.5 mile Bunny Trail in Susquehanna County will please the average hiker.Nay Aug Park: Observe the gorge, as well as railroad tracks and waterfalls on Davis Trail.Ricketts Glen State Park: This Luzerne County hike was rated difficult, but the waterfalls will make the trek worth it.Mount Minsi Loop: Take advantage of your proximity to the Appalachian Trail at the Delaware Water Gap.FOR THE BOOKWORM:Book signing: The Dimmick Memorial Library in Jim Thorpe is expecting a surprise guest on Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. She's a best-selling author and was on Oprah's Book Club list.Summer Reading Program: The Tamaqua Public Library offers the program to children ages 6-12 on Mondays from 3-4:40 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. Children ages 2-5 gather every Tuesday and Wednesday, both from 10-11 a.m. To register, call 570-668-4660.Art Camp: Children ages 9-15 can head to the Palmerton Public Library for fun with acrylics, watercolor, pen and ink. All supplies are provided. Offered from 9 a.m.-noon on July 14-17 or August 4-8.Stories and Crafts will be held at 10:15 a.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month, children ages 3-5 can listen to an interactive story at the Lehighton Memorial Library.FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY:Ice Cream Festival: Beat the heat at St. John's Lutheran Church at 826 Mahoning Drive West, Lehighton, from 3-8 p.m. on July 26.Family Fun Folk Concert: See folk artist, Dave Fry, perform at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center on 125 Pine St. from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Saturday.Miner's Heritage Festival: Travel back in time in the mines of the No. 9 Mine and Museum in Lansford from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Besides tours, there will be vendors, exhibits and competitions.Faerie FanFaire: Festivities at Stonehenge Gardens on Dairy Road in Tamaqua include musicians, magicians, storytellers, face painting, arts and crafts and a costume contest. All vendors will be dressed to the theme from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on August 23.FOR THE MARKET-GOERS:Summit Hill Flea Market: Don't get too overwhelmed at the variety of books, art, music, clothing and knickknacks at the Summit Hill Heritage Center on West Hazard Street from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 2.Used Book, Jewelry, and Flea Market Sale: You'll find it all at Penn Kidder Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday in Albrightsville.FOR THE CAR LOVERS:Logan Farr Truck Show: Head to Heisler's Dairy Bar in Lewistown Valley from noon to 5 p.m. on Aug. 2 and donate to the Four Diamonds Fund and Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital.Cruise Night: The Jukebox Cruisers host this antique car show from 5-8 p.m. on July 25, and again on Aug. 29 at Phifer Ice Dam Park in Franklin Township. The Lions Club will offer refreshments.
