Big Band Ambassadors presented a Sunday afternoon of musical entertainment at the Lehighton Area Middle School auditorium. The concert featured an 18 piece Big Band performing in the style of Glenn Miller and the Dorsey Brothers. Also during the concert, several members of the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band took part in the concert. Proceeds of the event benefitted the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band 100th Anniversary Concert. The 100th Anniversary Concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 27 at the old Lehighton High School, (Lehighton Annex) Third Street, Lehighton.

This is perhaps more of a query than a comment. I am glad to hear that the "Big Band" sound of my earlier years is still "alive and well". Does anybody remember the "Music Masters" of the late 1940's? It was also based in Lehighton and was directed by Mel Hill (clarinet and tenor saxophone) who was also the Conductor and Director of the Lehighton Men's Band. His brother Carmen played piano and did many of the arrangements for the Music Masters - a 16 piece "Big Band" with two vocalists - one male and one female. I lived in Palmerton and played tenor slide trombone in both organizations until I moved to Phila. in 1950, where I still reside (88 years old and retired). Ah yes, the memories of dances in the pavillion on top of the mountain in Mauch Chunk and the summer evening concerts in the Lehighton municipal park band shell! If anyone cares to contact me, my E-mail address is (davjeng@aol.com). - "Dave" Engler.
