A lack of big name appeal wasn't enough to hamper Blue Mountain Ski Area's annual autumn bash.

Instead, free entertainment and a variety of activities for people of all ages attracted visitors to the third annual Rock the Fall Festival this past weekend.With a focus on local acts instead of more high profile acts as in the past, visitors were able to juke and jive to the sound of music at no charge.Todd and Donna Marlatt of Palmerton were certainly into the music on Saturday as they listened to a performance by The Job."It's interesting," Todd Marlatt said. "I like the entertainment, to be out, and it's something to do."Donna Marlatt said she was pumped by the band's performance."I love it," Donna Marlatt said. "It's close to home, there's good music, good food."Other featured entertainment on Saturday included performances by Dark, Lansdowne, Meadowland, and UUU. There were also free fireworks at dark.Sunday saw performances by the Jesse Wade Gang, Becky and the Beast, Kinetic Blu, and Under the Wire. The Eagles Cheerleaders were also on hand, and roving guitar player Mike Pilgermayer performed.There was also a "Rock'-n-Rib Fest" with cooking contests, a fall foliage motorcycle ride, a hay maze, a petting zoo, rides and more.Bailey Brisendine, 13, of Allentown, took part in the free pumpkin painting activity along with her brother, Colby Brisendine, 4."I like painting," Bailey Brisendine said. "Right now, I'm doing my name with black outlining."As she watched her daughter, Hannah Harwick, 4, have her face painted, Beth Harwick of Lehigh Township said she was impressed by the plethora of activities."They have a lot to do for kids," Beth Harwick said. "It's our first time here; we'll definitely be back."Heidi Lutz, marketing director, said she was pleased with how well this year's event fared."We were very happy with the turnout," Lutz said. "I thought the bands did a wonderful job, and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time."Lutz said she can foresee a similar format for next year's event."It worked out well; we still had a high volume of guests," she said. "We're very happy."
