An automatic sprinkling system probably saved Walnutport Shopping Center from serious fire damages last evening. Walnutport Fire Chief John S. Kirchner said the sprinkling system, as well as an automatic alarm system, definitely played a role in keeping the fire contained. The heaviest damage occurred to Fay's Drug Store, where the fire had its start, and the neighboring Fashion Bug store. The blaze was reported shortly after 7 p.m. while a meeting of store personnel was occurring in Fay's.
