Revising the county zoning ordinance took up much of the time of the Schuylkill Planning Commission at its monthly meeting held Wednesday evening at the courthouse in Pottsville. The commission was unable to complete their work and recessed the meeting to Dec. 1 at 3 p.m.
A request by the Schuylkill County Airport to include in the zoning ordinance an amendment to require people seeking to construct buildings or towers 100 feet or higher would have to notify the airport authority and the FAA in Washington to get clearance. The commission at first adopted a resolution by a 4 to 2 vote but minutes later rescinded the motion to be brought up at the December meeting. Other changes in the zoning ordinance were also discussed.
Once the commission incorporates the revisions it will hold a public meeting on Dec. 15 at 9 a.m. in the commissioners board room and then present the ordinance for adoption by the commissioners at their meeting that day scheduled for 10 a.m.
The board gave final approval to two subdivisions.
They were: Dolores Dizio, Ashland, to subdivide a parcel of land 0.237 of an acre into two lots for existing single family homes; Jason E. and Jennifer M. Thomas, Port Carbon, received final approval to subdivide 0.141 of an acre for annexation.
Quad Three Group, Wilkes-Barre, which plans to construct an Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle Power Plant in Porter Township, received a fourth 90 day extension to complete its plan. The new date is the February meeting of the planning commission.
The commission reviewed and had no comment on a number of projects seeks permits.
Eagle Rock Resorts for its AW South Subdivision in North Union Township is seeking a sewage planning module approval; SEDCO is seeking a permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) a permit for construction of a travel plaza facility in Cass Township; and a grant application is sought by DEP to backfill hazardous mine strip pits in Tremont Township under the abandoned mine reclamation project.
