Joan Porambo,a junior at Worcester Polytechnical Institute, Mass., was elected captain of the women's volleyball team there for the 2010. She is the team libaro and hit the 1,000 dig milestone recently when the WPI Engineers hosted Mass. Maritime and Pine Manor. Last month, Joan was the initial NEWMAC (New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference) Volleyball Player of the Week. She also earned the Most Valuable Player Award in the six-college Regis Pride Invitational Tournament, which her team won for the second consecutive time. Joan is a management major at WPI, a member of the Alpha Game Delta Sorority and the Student Athlete Advising Committee and a volunteer with the Big Brother/Big Sister program. A 2008 graduate of Marian High School, she is a daughter of Bob and Cathy Porambo of Jim Thorpe.
