It was a magic carpet ride for those brave enough to take the plunge down the steep sliding board.

Carissa Fallon, 7, Riley Fallon, 5, and Julie Blose, 6, of Lehighton, all experienced the fun activity at the Crusaders For A Cause Carnival

The fifth annual event got underway under hot, balmy weather conditions Thursday in the Palmerton Borough Park.

Thursday was Kids Night, highlighted by a pay one price ride special. Though attendance was down some early on, those numbers figured to increase as the night wore on, said Christina Obrecht, president of Crusaders For A Cause.

"I'm sure it will get a little bit busier because it's Kids Night," Obrecht said. "Friday night and Saturday night should be busy because we have two bands."

Travis Zimmerman of Lehighton, who won a stuffed animal in a dart-themed game, said he enjoyed the carnival.

"I like it," Zimmerman said. "It's fun for the kids."

The carnival continues from 6-11 p.m. tonight, and 4-11 p.m. Saturday.

Tonight's featured entertainment is by Shake Rattle & Soul from 6:30-9:30 p.m. The Shakey Ground Band will perform from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Proceeds raised from the carnival will go to Relay For Life of Palmerton and Surrounding Areas.

Crusaders For A Cause was incorporated in May, 2009, under the Non-Profit Corporation Law of 1988 as amended, to help raise money for various charities.

Those charities include Relay For Life/American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, March of Dimes, and many other community causes or projects.
