Named Penn State student marshal

Michael Taptich will be the student marshal for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Penn State College of Engineering spring commencement ceremony on May 14. He will receive a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering.

He has chosen Michael Gooseff, assistant professor of civil engineering, to be his faculty escort.College of Engineering student marshals are selected for their outstanding academic achievement and contributions to engineering student life.Taptich is the son of Frank and Teresa Taptich of Albrightsville. He is a 2006 graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School.While at Penn State, Taptich received the Evan Pugh Senior Scholar Award, the Evan Pugh Junior Scholar Award, the President Sparks Award and the Leonhard Honors Program for Engineering Scholarship.He is a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and the Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering Honor Society.His extracurricular activities included the American Society of Civil Engineers (community service chair), the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon Operations Committee, Habitat for Humanity and the Penn State Snowboard Club.Taptich will enter law school in the fall of 2011.
