Palmerton man admits sexually assaulting two young girls

A Palmerton man admitted in Carbon County court on Tuesday to sexually assaulting two young girls.

Rickey Joe Causey, 46, pleaded guilty before Senior Judge Richard W. Webb to one count each of aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault for incidents that occurred at his residence last year. In a plea bargain with the district attorney's office 24 other counts were dropped. The plea agreement, if accepted by Webb, calls for a state prison term of three to six years followed by four years of state probation.Causey was arrested by Palmerton police for having sexual contact with a then 13-year-old girl at his residence. The incidents included Causey inappropriately touching the girl in private areas.During the course of the investigation police learned that Causey also had inappropriate contact with a then eight-year-old girl at his residence. That occurred at least once. The contact with the older girl occurred several times, police charged. The charges fall under the provisions of Megan's Law. Webb accepted the plea but deferred sentencing because Causey must be evaluated by the state sexual offenders board to determine if he is a violent sexual predator. If he is found to be a violent sexual predator by the board then he must register for life, if not, a 10 year registration period would be imposed by the court.Webb also ordered a presentence investgation (PSI) be prepared by the adult probation office.Causey was unable to post bail on the charges and remains in the county prison.
