Residents along the 300 block of Hazle Street near the village of Quakake heard a thunderous noise just after 6 a.m. this morning. Upon investigating they were surprised to discover a tractor trailer lying on its side just a short distance from the roof of their detached garage. The rig, occupied by a male operator and a female in the sleeper of the rig, were traveling north on I-81 when the unit left the right berm of the roadway, traveled through a heavily wooded area and down an embankment before coming to rest on its side. The two had to be extricated from the wreckage and were transported to an area hospital. Firefighters also saved several small dogs in the wreckage. The wreckage could not be seen from the Interstate. State police at Frackville are investigating the incident.
