One turkey, two windshields

Spring is the time of the year when animals birds are all on the move and two motorists learned the hard way. Just after noon Sunday a motorist from Reading was traveling west on Route 443 just west of Route 309 in Walker Township. As he drove along the roadway a turkey flew from a wetland to his right, crashing into and shattering the windshield of his sport utility vehicle. As the large bird bounced off his unit it continued across the roadway impacting and shattering the windshield of a east bound pickup truck occupied by a West Penn Township couple. The impact with the pickup truck was more severe causing structural damage to the roof as well. Luckily, none of the occupants of the vehicles were injured. That was not the luck of the turkey.
