With one week left in the regular season, three teams are competing for two playoff spots in the Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission's Winter Basketball League.
Service Electric and R.R. Frey Services have secured the top two spots in the playoffs, while Two King's Pizzeria, Joe's Place/Joey B's and Cuz-N-Joe's Place battle it out for the final two openings.
-Two King's Pizzeria
In a game filled with playoff implications, Two King's Pizzeria rallied from a 24-19 halftime deficit to defeat Cuz-N-Joe's Place by a final score of 61-53. A win next week over Midas Touch Hair Salon will punch Two King's ticket into the postseason. Cuz-N- Joe's needs a win and a Joe's Place/Joey B's loss to make the playoffs.
Ron Abdo led the Two King's offensive with a game-high 19 points, while Damian Fritz chimed in with 18. Mike Yaworsky also netted 16 points in the win.
For Cuz-N-Joe's Place, Jon Veet led the way with 18 points, followed by George Evancho (15 points) and Bob Broyan (13 points).
Schaeffer's Harley Davidson-Service Electric
Service Electric remained undefeated on the season and clinched the top seed for the playoffs with a 74-52 victory over Schaeffer's Harley Davidson.
Jeff Krushinsky poured in 20 points to lead Service Electric, while Josh McCabe and Ted Styka added 15 and 14 points respectively.
For Schaeffer's, Mike Stankiewicz had a game-high 22 points.
R.R. Frey Services-Midas Touch Hair Salon
Despite a sloppy first half which included 12 turnovers, R.R. Frey Services rebounded after the break to post a 51-47 victory over Midas Touch Hair Salon. The win locks R.R. Frey Services into the second-seed for the upcoming playoffs.
Jeremy Frey sparked R.R. Frey's late game surge and ended the night with six three-pointers and 22 points. Joe Tamagini added 12 points.
For Midas Touch Hair Salon, Mike Conley buried five treys and accounted for 18 points.
Joe's Place/Joey B's
-Matika's Lawn Care/ Blazosky Funeral Home
Matika's Lawn Care/Blazosky Funeral Home ended its season on a high note with a 46-43 upset victory over Joe's Place/Joey B's. A win could have secured the third seed in the playoffs for the Palmerton-based squad, but now they must either defeat Service Electric (7-0); rely on a Cuz-N-Joe's loss; or hope for a Two King's win, a Cuz-N-Joe's win, and a University Legendz win in order to make the postseason.
Matika's Lawn care was paced by the trio of Steve Strauss, Chris Rodriguez and Tom Miller, who all tallied nine points.
For Joe's Place, Zach Tofany scored 14 of his team-high 16 points in the second half.
