Strikes, spares and even gutter balls will be welcome as part of a special bowling benefit in honor of a deceased Slatington youth.

The sixth annual Boyer Bowl will be held Saturday at the Slatington Bowling Center. Session one is from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and session two from 9 to 11:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Asher F. Boyer Endowment Fund for Future Education. Asher was killed in a tragic car accident in 2004 at the age of 16.

Debbie Boyer, Asher's mom, said the Boyer Bowl was started by Chris Craig and friends to memorialize the life of Asher. Chris and Asher were best friends, she said.

Past proceeds from the Bowl have gone toward the Boy Scouts, the Osprey House at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center, Camp Compass, and scholarships for Northern Lehigh High School seniors.

Debbie said Asher played soccer, played clarinet in the high school band ,was an Eagle Scout , swam on the summer swim team, and helped to raise money for many sporting organizations like the National Rifle Association.

She said she would like to thank the Slatington Bowling Center, which will host the event, as well as this year's staff: Craig, Justin Maurer, Ashley Merkel, Liz Wagner, Kirsten Peters, Zac Moser, Josh Buzi, Jess Szuchyt, Megan Vernon and Steve Andrew.

Anyone who has questions may contact Craig at 610-730-0688, or macgoofy13@gmail.com, or Maurer at 610-554-8597, or goldboy15@aol.com.
