Do you know a well-rounded, good student who would like a scholarship to Pennsylvania's oldest military college?

House Speaker Keith McCall is seeking recommendations under the new Valley Forge Military College Legislative Appointment Initiative.

"A newly created legislative appointment program means you can recommend a student to attend the state's official military college in 2010-11," McCall said in a press release.

The deadline for submitting a student's name is April 15. Each appointee will receive a $9,000 annual scholarship to attend Valley Forge Military College, funded entirely by the college – no state funds are used for the scholarships. Students who qualify will also receive assistance in obtaining other forms of financial aid.

To qualify, a student must have a minimum SAT score of 1,000 or a 21 on the ACT and an overall high school grade-point average of 2.5. He or she (the College is co-educational) also must exhibit involvement in sports and other extracurricular activities, demonstrate leadership potential and be service-oriented.
