LEHIGHTON

Head coach - Dan Dagorn (second season)

Assistant coaches - Sally Beck

Last year's record - 6-11

League - Mountain Valley Conference

District 11 classification - AA

Key losses - Kaitlin Maloney, Sara Dorward, Abby Frey

Key returnees - Alex Serrano (Sr., MF), Jourdan Semmel (Sr., GK/F), Courtney Borger (Jr., D), Jordyn Homyak (Jr., F), Rachel Inghram (Sr., MF)

Others to watch - Casey Beck (Jr., MF/F), Catrina Reppert (Sr., D).

Strengths - Head coach Dan Dagorn has been pleased with the way his girls have come along and connected with one another. The Indians recently competed in two tournaments (in Wilkes Barre and Pleasant Valley) and did well in both. Lehighton finished second in the Pleasant Valley tourney. While the girls are playing well as a group, they will need to play the majority of the minutes due to the program's low numbers.

Weaknesses - Numbers. Dagorn has about 17 kids and will probably have to nix the JV team this year. What may doom the program even further is the chance of the sport being moved to the fall in 2012. Most of Dagorn's players also play field hockey and volleyball - which will make for even lower numbers. It also hurts the influx of freshmen, as many may choose to play a more 'popular' sport.

Quotable - "The girls are really fun to be with. Most of them, from playing field hockey and volleyball, know what it takes to be successful as an athlete. I am hoping they can keep that work ethic going in soccer." Head coach Dan Dagorn.

NORTHERN LEHIGH

Head coach - John Sitaras (third season)

Assistant coaches - Fritz Wagner, Scott Owens

Last year's record - 2-14-1 (1-14-1 CL)

League - Colonial League

District 11 classification - AA

Key returnees - Briana Riddick (Sr., F), Addie George (Sr., MF), Victoria Tadman-Ubele (Jr., MF), Nicole Czarnecki (Jr., D)

Others to watch - Casey Gavalla (Fr., MF), Amber Kibler (Fr., MF)

Strengths - Two weeks into the preseason, Sitaras is simply impressed on how eager his young Bulldogs are in becoming better players by learning the game seriously.

Weaknesses - Although Riddick, George, Tadman-Ubele and Czarnecki combined together for a total of 14 years of varsity experience, the Bulldogs are still laden by a bit of inexperience throughout the roster with an abundance of underclassmen 10 sophomores and seven freshmen.

Quotable - "We're trying to build our program with hard work and determination. Our goal is to keep games close this year and take the next step from there. Districts are our future dream, and we are determined to one day accomplish it." Head coach John Sitaras.

NORTHWESTERN

Head coach - Kelly Bleam (12th year, 197-42-11)

Last year's record - 15-5

League - Colonial League

District 11 classification - AA

Key losses - Lindsey Herman (MF), Lauren Gerchufsky (GK)

Key returnees - Katie Hallingstad (Jr., F), Katie Hughes (Jr., MF), Seneca Tucker (Sr., D)

Others to watch - Nine sophomores have made the varsity team - five or six of them will start. Two freshman made the varsity team and one of them may start.

Strengths - Despite being young, there has been good development over the past year and off-season.

Weaknesses - Tigers will need to find a replacement in goal for Gerchufsky and at midfield for Herman.

Quotable - "As always we (the coaches) will need to put all the pieces together and hope the pieces come together quickly with our young team." Head coach Kelly Bleam.

PALMERTON

Head coach - Barry Hahn (third season)

Assistant coaches - Steve Hicks, Linda Hicks, Jen Hahn, Jody McCloud-Missmer

Last year's record - 5-12-1 overall (4-11-1 CL)

League - Colonial League

District 11 classification - AA

Key losses - Casey Althouse, Kristen Roberts, Jazmine Schafer

Key returnees - Kait Westermann (Sr.), Sarah Andrews (Jr.), Jill Farkas (Jr.), Cindy George (Jr.), Alex Paulinho (Jr.)

Others to watch - Kylee Turko (So.), Morgan Meyers (So.), Kelsey Eaton (So.), Lauren David (So.), Kayla Creed (So.), Shelby Pelezynski (So.)

Strengths - With the likes of Westermann, Andrews, Farkas, George and Paulinho all returning with plenty of varsity minutes from a year ago, and with the addition of some up-and-coming stars, Hahn feels the Bombers are returning one of the strongest teams in years. He is expecting good things from the team over the course of the upcoming season.

Weaknesses - Right now, the Bombers are focusing on the positives in their game and are continuing to build on their strengths. If there is one thing that doesn't lie in their favor, it is that they do not have a deep roster.

Quotable - "Our numbers are up from last year. We plan to continue building on the gains we made last season. The work rate at practice is high and it needs to be to reach our goal for the season. The future is definitely looking bright for the program." Head coach Barry Hahn.

PLEASANT VALLEY

Head coach - Tim Hinton (second season)

Assistant coaches - Derek Strohl, James Shoopack

Last year's record - 15-4-3

League - Mountain Valley Conference

District 11 classification - AAA

Key losses - Ali Yozwiak, Cheyenne Eberhart, Amy Szarzynski, Caitlyn Symes

Key returnees - Jackie Guiliano (Sr., GK), Victoria Cimino (Sr., D), Maggie Patterson (Jr., D/MF), Kristin Hart (Jr., MF/D), Kayla Dorney (Jr., F)

Others to watch - Hannah Bernier (So., MF/F), Katie Forte (So., MF), Kira Sever (Jr., F), Dianna Connor (Fr., F)

Strengths - Pleasant Valley had a solid core of players returning and should leave it with enough talent to compete for the conference title. The Bears should be able to build around this group, which has shown a great work ethic so far this pre-season.

Weaknesses - The Bears lost most of their scoring from last year in Yozwiak (school's all-time leader) and Eberhart, so putting the ball in the net may be a little harder this year. Because their two main threats are gone, the Bears will need to get used to playing with new centerpieces. It will take some time for the new players to gel as a unit.

Quotable - "Our biggest goal is to make districts. We want to qualify and make as much noise as possible. On top of that, we want to contend for the MVC title. We have some young players in some key roles right now, so they will need to step up. We have our work cut out for us, but if we make the most of our opportunities then I think we will be okay in the long run." Head coach Tim Hinton.
