A Lehighton area man allegedly lied to police officers regarding his motorcycle that was involved in a fatal accident.
Dale N. Schleicher III of Schleicher Lane, Lehighton, was arraigned before District Judge Edward Lewis of Jim Thorpe after being charged with making a false report.
The charge evolves from a one-vehicle accident on June 8, which claimed the life of Tanya Wentz, 39, of Lehighton.
Wentz was on a motorcycle owned by Schleicher.
The accident happened at about 11 p.m. at the intersection of Sixth and Mahoning streets in Lehighton. Police said the motorcycle struck a pole.
Cpl. Neal A. Ebbert, the investigating officer, alleges that Schleicher initially told police that Wentz stole his motorcycle while he was in his cousin's second floor apartment.
The affidavit says that in a second interview, "he admitted that he gave (Wentz) permission to drive the bike but was sorry he had."
He told police, "he lied because he was on state parole and did not want to get into trouble," the affidavit reads.
Schleicher was at the scene of the fatal accident while Wentz was receiving medical treatment by ambulance personnel, according to the affidavit.
Police said the investigation of the accident is continuing.
Comments
Considering that he is still on state parole, lying to the police would definitely put him in an even worse position. I do hope that the owner of the motorcycle bought some form of insurance, because the damage must have been rather substantial.
Either way... This accident was a tragety. Politically finger pointing is unnecessary. Schleicher and Wentz were both grown adults capable of making their own decisions.
Whether the motorcycle was stolen or permission given to take it... how is Schleicher at fault? I agree he is wrong for changing his story as to whether he gave permission or not. But honestly... does this mean if you let someone drive your car and their drive ends in a tragedy, you are to blame?
I was not there to know the facts... Was Wentz intoxicated? Or did she simply have an accident?
IF YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS INTOXICATED YOUR MOTORCYCLE, AND IT BECOMES AN INSTRUMENT THAT CAUSES THE DEATH OF THE INTOXICATED PERSON, YOU SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR DEATH. THE PERSON WHO OWNS THE VEHICLE, PAYS THE INSURANCE ON THE VEHICLE, AND PAYS TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REGISTERED IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT VEHICLE AT ALL TIMES. GIVING PERMISSION TO AN INTOXICATED INDIVIDUAL TO DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE IS NOT A RESPONSIBLE DECISION ON BEHALF OF THE VEHICLE OWNER. MR. SCHLEICHER SHOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO OWN A VEHICLE OR HAVE A DRIVER'S LICENSE EVER AGAIN DUE TO HIS VERY POOR JUDGEMENT!! BECAUSE OF HIS POOR JUDGEMENT, YOUNG CHILDREN LOST THEIR MOTHER. I HOPE MR. SCHLEICHER CAN SLEEP AT NIGHT KNOWING THAT HE CAUSED MS. WENTZ'S CHILDREN TO LOSE THEIR MOTHER AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE!! BETTER YET, I HOPE HE CAN'T SLEEP AT ALL!! YES, I THINK THAT IT IS RIGHT THAT MR. SCHLEICHER SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH THE DEATH OF TANYA WENTZ. DUE TO HIS POOR JUDGEMENT CAUSING MS. WENTZ'S CHILDREN TO LIVE THEIR LIFE WITHOUT A MOTHER, MR. SCHLEICHER SHOULD BE INCARCERATED FOR A VERY LONG TIME WHICH WILL LEAVE HIS CHILDREN WITHOUT A FATHER. AN EYE FOR AN EYE!!!
You have to Love when people post A comment when they THINK they know the facts. First off Mrs. Wentz had 3 children not "2" as stated by The Founding Father! Second Herb Truhe had nothing to do with his Son In Law being sent from a "Florida prison" because Mr. Schleicher was not in a prison while in Florida he was in a county jail. Herb Truhe had nothing to do with Mr. Schleicher being released to the state of his current residency. Before you make a comment The Founding Father you should check into the law regarding an out of state resident being extradited to their home state. So for anyone to put the blame on Herb Truhe is just a fool. I hope you had a wonder 4th of July you stupid loser!
THE FACT IS, IF YOU GIVE SOMEONE A MOTORCYCLE WHEN THEY ARE INTOXICATED AT A BAR, AND THEY END UP DEAD SHOULDN'T MR. SCLEICHER BE CHARGED WITH MAN SLAUGHTER? NEXT QUESTION ON EVERYONE'S MIND IS WHY SOMEONE WITH A FELONY METH CONVICTION ON PAROLE HAS A DRIVER'S LICENSE. AS FOR THE INFO ON MR. TRUHE, JUST HEARD IT, AS IT WAS THE TOPIC OF CONVERSATION AT MS.WENTZ'S FUNERAL. YUP, ONLY IN CARBON COUNTY !!!
JUST THINK MR. TRUHE, IF YOU HAD LEFT YOUR SON IN LAW IN PRISON IN FLORIDA TWO SMALL CHILDREN WOULD STILL HAVE THEIR MOTHER! HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!
