Tuscarora Fire Company holds truck housing, new monument dedication

The Tuscarora Fire Company held its joint truck housing and veterans monument dedication service recently outside their fire house.

The service started off with a prayer by Pastor Jen Oakes. The welcome address was given by Tuscarora Fire Company Fire Chief Thomas Slane. The introduction of the Tuscarora Fire Company officers consisted of President Ryan Slane, Vice President Gene Marko, Secretary Brianne Gimbel, Treasurer Kathy Matsago, Board of Directors Gene Marko, Tom Slane, Dennis Harris, John Matsago Jr, Danny DeCindio, Fire Officers Thomas Slane, Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Slane, Lieutenant and Assistant Engineer David Blew, Chief Engineer Paul Matsago, and Assistant Engineer John Matsag Jr.The guest speaker was State Rep. Jerry Knowles (R-124).The dedication of the new squad vehicle was done by Pastor Jen Oakes. Eldest member Walter "Boots" Englert, assisted by Fire Chief Tom Slane, christened the new squad vehicle. Following the squad christening, flowers were presented on the new veterans monument located adjacent to the fire house. Raising of the flags and gun salute were also part of the monument dedication. Tuscarora Firefighter David Blew, monument foreman, gave credit to his son, Dave Jr, for the work he did with the monument.At the end of the service, veterans awards, lifetime member awards, and appreciation plaques were presented to recipients. Three WWII veterans - Leo Dougherty, Carl Bridygham, and Edward Puckalavage - received a Veteran's Honor Roll and Tuscarora Fire Company Fireman's Memorial Dedication Award.A large new wooded sign with the Tuscarora Fire Company logo on it was hung at the entrance to the truck house in preparation for the event. The new sign was made by Ray Swartz of Tamaqua.New Philadelphia American Legion Post 677, New Philadelphia Amvets Post 256, the Schuylkill County Joint Veterans Group, and the Catholic War Veterans provided the color guard and firing detail for the service.
