Two homes – one in Walnutport, Northampton County, and the other in Washington Township, Lehigh County – were destroyed in separate dwelling fires Friday.
The fire Friday morning destroyed a home in the 8600 block of Brown Street in Washington Township Fire companies from throughout Lehigh and Northampton counties raced to the scene but the flames traveled too quickly.
Several fire fighters were treated for smoke inhalation and possible heat exhaustion. Tankers were called in from surrounding areas due to the remote location of the fire scene. Once the flames broke through the roof the fire traveled quickly, engulfing the entire two-story wood frame dwelling in minutes.
On Friday afternoon, fire was discovered at about 1 p.m. in a vacant home near the intersection of Oak street and Lincoln Ave., Walnutport. When fire fighters arrived on scene they found heavy smoke and flames in the second floor of the wood frame dwelling.
It took firemen about an hour to bring the blaze under control.
