WXW

On Summerfest Sunday in Tamaqua, WXW will present Homecoming '10 at the TAHS gym. The show will be a Blast show taped for rebroadcast at a later time.

Big Poppa Pete is Peter Knepper, a 1987 Tamaqua Area alumnus who began his wrestling career in 2000, training with the Wild Samoans Center in Allentown and Hazleton. Big Poppa played football and wrestled at Tamaqua High and also was an elementary and high school assistant wrestling coach for nine years.

The last time Big Poppa stepped in the ring was in December, 2008 when he took on Nicky Ice, a former WXW wrestler, in an EGW match.

The proceeds from WXW's Homecoming '10 will benefit the Tamaqua High girls soccer program. Big Poppa's daughter Allie, his former manager (as Poppa's Girl) is a member of the Lady Raider soccer team.

"I'm excited, with it being Father's Day," said Big Poppa. "My dad died five years ago, and he told me that I needed to start living life and stop hiding behind myself."

Big Poppa has bulked up to 265 pounds for the Blast and thanked Tamaqua Athletics Director Mike Hromyak and the district's administration for their support of the event.

"I'm looking forward to wrestling for the hometown fans," he said. "'m glad to make money to benefit the boosters, not Vince McMahon."

The WXW show will also include an Ultimate World Title Match between champion A.C. Anderson and The Star (Eric Cobian), who will be with manager Doc Daniels. Also on the card will be Samu, Afa, Jr. and Tommy Suede.
