High winds causedresidents living in the South and North Wards of Tamaqua to be without power for a number of hours Sunday. Just before noon, a fallen tree knocked down power lines located on Old 209 Road, just off Rt. 209, also causing a small brush fire which was extinguished quickly by the Tamaqua Brush Fire Response Team. PPL restored steady power around 5 p.m. Volunteers from the Tuscarora Fire Company, Tamaqua Fire Department, and Tamaqua Fire Police responded.
