David and Nancy Smith, of Lehighton have announced the engagement of their daughter, Megan Smith, to Brian Godard, the son of Robert and Carolyn Godard of Cheshire, Conn.

The bride-to-be is a 2001 graduate of Lehighton Area High School.She went on to graduate from Wilkes University and the New England College of Optometry.She is currently employed as an optometrist in Bristol, Conn.The prospective bridegroom is a graduate of Clark University and the New England College of Optometry.He is currently practicing optometry in Hartford, Conn.Godard proposed in March when the couple was in Boston, the city where they first met.Wedding plans are being made for the summer of 2011.
