A motorist was injured Saturday afternoon when he experienced a blowout of a tire traveling state route 54 in Rush Township. The male driver was operating a late model pickup truck west just west of the border with Carbon county when the tire blew out. The truck swerved to the right entering the north berm plummeting down an embankment coming to rest about 50 feet off the roadway. The victim managed to call 911 to seek aid. He was removed from the wreckage by members of the Hometown Fire Company and treated at the scene by members of the Tamaqua ambulance and Lehighton paramedics. He was flown via PennStar helicopter to a Lehigh Valley area trauma center. Hometown fire police maintained traffic control at the scene. Rush Township police are investigating the incident.
