A Palmerton doctor seeks approval to construct an addition onto his property.

To that end, Dr. Louis Sportelli will go before the borough's Zoning Hearing Board at 7 p.m. Wednesday in search of a variance related to side-yard setbacks.

Sportelli wishes to construct a 35-by-35-foot addition to the west side of a dwelling unit at 776 Columbia Avenue, which is located in an R-2 (Residential - Medium Density) zoning district.

The borough's zoning ordinance requires a 10-foot side-yard setback . However, Sportelli has proposed to construct the addition two-feet from the side yard for the westerly property line.

In his rejection letter dated July 7, borough zoning officer Duane Dellecker said Sportelli's request was denied because his plan is not in compliance with the borough's side-yard setback zoning ordinance.
