Commercials for reverse mortgages are all over the television airwaves these days, sounding like a godsend for older residents struggling to remain in their homes. Are such mortgages really a benefit to older citizens? What are the differences between reverse and regular mortgages? Are there income guidelines? Are there fees, taxes or monthly payments?

Answers to these and a lot more questions about the growing business of reverse mortgages will be available at the next meeting of Tamaqua's South Ward Neighborhood Committee, from a representative of M&T Bank. The information session will begin at 7 p.m. and is open to the general public, not just SWNC members and/or residents of the South Ward.

The meeting/info session will be held at the Scheller Student Center at the Lehigh Carbon Community Center Morgan Campus, located on Van Gelder Street. The center formerly housed the South Ward Fire Company.
