Mahoning Township police are investigating a two-vehicle crash Wednesday along SR209 and Center Street.

The accident happened at 3:21 p.m. in the area of East Coast Medical Service, said Chief Kenneth J. Barnes.When an officer arrived the driver of the pickup truck that had been hit said the other vehicle had left the scene. The driver said the other vehicle was a red Mercury with heavy front end damage and that it was headed toward Lehighton. The pickup driver and witnesses said the pickup driver was trying to turn left onto 209 toward Jim Thorpe when the Mercury ran into the side of the truck. Witnesses said the Mercury was driving fast. The police officer saw skid marks on the roadway and antifreeze from a car radiator at the scene. Police have identified the driver of the Mercury and are investigating.
