Dear Editor:
On January 12, 1915, the House of Representatives rejected a proposal to give women the right to vote. On January 12, 2010, Representative Tim Holden is rejecting The Affordable Health Care Act for America, robust legislation for vital Health Care Reform.
Today we look back at the mind set of those Representatives who rejected a woman's right to vote with embarrassment. Today we look at the mind set or Representatives who would deny Americans access to Quality Health Care scandalous. The justification is the importance of remaining fiscally responsible. I say the importance of the life and death of Americans is the number one responsibility for our government.
Where is the urgency to protect our fellow citizens from illness and death that is preventable? To avoid that reality is unconscionable.
How many realize that one American dies every 12 minutes for lack of access to quality health care. What of the fear of someone who loses their job, then their health care and prays that no one in their family becomes ill and requires health care that would force them into bankruptcy? This is the reality that Americans face today.
We are spending millions upon millions of dollars to prevent possible terrorists attacks while thousands of our citizens die each month from lack of financial access to affordable medical care. It is horrific if someone is killed in a terrorist attack... but just unfortunate that someone dies because they couldn't afford to pay for life-saving chemotherapy. This contrast in the value of human life is terrifying!
We must not let this precious time for heroic action slip by and not halt the daily tragedy of preventable deaths.
Rather, let us act with the example of the "Good Samaritan" who saw the need and, moved with compassion, immediately bound up the wounds of the helpless. Each of us, in time, may become "helpless" and give thanks for the compassion of others. That, I believe, is what grounds the character of this great nation.
That is also why it is also essential to our physical and moral health to support a robust Public Health Care Option.
You can do that with a note or call to Representative Tim Holden, a good man, and remind him that quality health care is an essential right for all Americans and that it must happen now.
Sincerely,
Deacon Skip La Police

Deacon is right and lets not stop at Public Health Care Option. Let's include the right to a good education. I want my childs college paid for by all these people supporting Health Care. Why? Because quality health care requires health care professions which require college education. Furthermore, I can pocket my 100,000.00 I will pay in CASH, because I do not qualify for school loans, and put the burden on all tax payers. In addition, I want everyone to pay for my clothing. Why? I need to get to work to help maintain my tax burden to pay for "everyone's right to quality health care" and I need to be clothed as does my child to attend college classes. Please join in and include your wants from the government as we increase all these programs from the sweat of the hard working people trying to make ends meet and paying for their less than quality health care coverage only to pay for the quality health care for those who refuse to work, or do not work at maintaining there employment. And lets not forget all of those who maintain a residence in this country with false social security numbers who will be accepted into our new founded Quality Health Care System. I do believe in helping those who have fallen on hard times after living a fiscally responsible life. I realize my comment is a little absurd but this issue grinds my gears. Where does it end? This program will have great negative affects on our already challanged economy. I challange everyone to list their wants from our government. I say good job SR Holden in "Holden the line."
Your opening paragraph mentions an affordable plan. the first ten years have ten years of taxes and seven years of benefits. Are you the one who goes to a car dealer to get a car, make three years of payments then goes to get the car?
The scandals are the Louisiana purchase for $300 MILLION and the Nebraska lifetime benefit that 49 other states have to pay for. States are you and me because the states get their money from taxing us. BRIBES
What is the source of a death every 12 minutes? From low quality Health care? That is what the lawyers prey on. If you could have a finders fee for every case you cite if you told a lawyer about it, you would have all the money you ever would need. Think beyond your words. What are the consequences of these actions?
Regarding the persons losing their jobs, COBRA, and health insurance, we need to open up more jobs in USA. Less than 50% of the original stimulus bill, $787 BILLION, is spent. You and I will pay for this. It has been said by this administration that they expect the economy to pick up in the second half of 2010. They said that early last year. Stimulus is to act quickly. Is 12 months later quick enough?
Heroic action was taken by Mr. Holden. He voted against the bill. Do you realize that the bill has been diminished from the original composition? Also, this bill is not from our President. Where is this coming from. Mr. Obama still has not put forth a bill he wrote! If the bill is not what it was, then why the fury to "Pass it quickly?"
The important part of the bill that these radical people want is the structure it creates. The head of the Health Department is mentioned in over 2300 times and is not approved by the Congress.
Your right. The character of this Nation is our quality. It is the few that want to diminish this great country that don't want us to act together. They divide us so that they can conquer us. Be aware. Be careful. Be vigilant!
Food for thought. The banking crisis killed us. Have you thought of the origin of the financial crisis? I believe that it was back in the 1960s when the Congress (politicians of DC) passed the Community Reinvestment Act, CRA. It said in part that the financial institutions must lend to the less able, not the less fortunate. Follow the process years later and you will find the financial institutions holding near worthless paper. They need to get these of their books. They were allowed by the federal government to create a new trading mechanism, credit swaps. These were sold to wall street who in turn sold them to Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Now the federal government, you and me, hold these worthless loans. And the heads of Mae and Mac got big bonuses for the growth of their organizations.
There are many more things that need to get straightened out.
Lastly, health care is not a right. You have the right to life, liberty, and a pursuit of happiness. Life; to be as successful as you can. Liberty; to have the freedom to move about as you wish. Pursuit of Happiness; the government wil not order you into what they want you to do.
Reread the constitution, all of us. It will guide you further than the politicians.
