Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society is offering a $500 educational scholarship to one qualified woman in Schuylkill County. Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria: must be female with a primary residence in Schuylkill County; currently enrolled in college with a major in education; and must have competed at least one year of college with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Delta Kappa Gama is an international organization of women educators.
The West Penn Baseball Association will sponsor a used clothing/toy drive this weekend with two convenient drop off locations. Dates and hours for drop offs at the Citizen's Fire Company on Rowe Street in Tamaqua will be Friday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items may also be taken to the West Penn Township Municipal Building, Friday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Items which may be donated include: wearable and usable clothing; shoes, belts and handbags; coats, hats and gloves; bed and bath linens; stuffed animals and toys. All items must be packaged in plastic garbage bags.
In the event of a winter storm dumping measurable snow in Tamaqua, borough crews have established a procedure for snow removal operations. Streets selected for snow removal will be posted the day before operations are to begin. Start times will vary but may be as early as 12:01 a.m., depending on work schedules and conditions.
Residents/motorists must move their vehicle from posted streets or face the possibility of having their vehicle ticketed and towed at their own expense.
The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9:15 a.m. An evening Bible study and praise session will be held Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
An evening prayer and share service is held Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
