Jim Thorpe and Palmerton cruised to girls basketball victories while the Tamaqua swimmers pulled off a sweep in scholastic sports action on Thursday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

CMVT-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe kept its postseason hopes alive with a 55-40 non-league win over visiting Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech.

After trailing 15-13 after the opening quarter, the Olympians erupted offensively and locked down on the defensive end to outscore CMVT 36-9 over the middle two periods.

Celeste Robinson paced the Olympians' attack with a 19-point performance. Chelsea Smelas and Hilary Reis both chipped in with 14.

In the JV game, Jim Thorpe came out on top with a 48-26 win over CMVT.

Palmerton jumped out early and never looked back en route to a 56-30 Colonial League victory over Northwestern.

Casey Rinfret had the hot hand for the Bombers finishing with a game-high 15 points. Katie Reimer and Kelsey Hay finished with 11 and 10 respectively.

Sara Jones led the Tigers with 10 points.

In the JV game, Palmerton handed Northwestern a 35-25 setback.

SWIMMING

Blue Mt.-Tamaqua

Tamaqua walked away from the pool with a Schuylkill League sweep of Blue Mountain.

The Blue Raiders captured 10 of the 12 events for a 124-56 victory on the boys' side. The Lady Raiders were only to able to post first in five of the events but still pulled out a 101-84 win over the Blue Eagles.

Ben Tuckett (200IM, 100 Backstroke), Ricky Clemson (500 and 100 Freestyle) and Dane DeWire (Diving, 100 Butterfly) paced the Blue Raiders with multiple first place finishes.

Caroline Kanaskie (200 and 500 Freestyle) was the lone multile winner for the Lady Raiders.

The Tide swam away with a sweep, winning the girls meet, 105-78, and taking the boys meet, 103-38.

The Lady Panthers' Tricia Janowiak shined with wins in the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

Jason Gates (200 IM, 100 breaststroke) had a pair of victories for the PV boys.
