The Lehighton wrestling team and the Tamaqua girls basketball squad both posted win in action Monday.

The Indians downed neighboring Palmerton in a non-league matchup, while the Raiders defeated Blue Mountain in a Schuylkill League contest.

Palmerton-Lehighton

Lehighton gained a 47-22 non-league wrestling win over visiting Palmerton.

David Lucykanish, Mike Balliet and Zach Borger registered falls for the Indians, while Anthony Farole added a tech fall.

The Bombers received a major decision from Mike Englert.

Tamaqua-Blue Mt.

Tamaqua improved to 17-1 this season by pulling away from host Blue Mountain in the fourth quarter and posting a 53-39 Schuylkill League Division 1 victory.

Amy Zehner poured in a game-high 25 points and also pulled down seven rebounds, while Cassie Eroh added 12 points and seven boards. The winners also received 10 rebounds and five assists from Allie Updike.

The Raiders also won the JV game, 33-27, behind 10 points from Maria Streisel.

Weatherly-Shenandoah

Shenandoah Valley raced out to a 17-1 lead after eight minutes and cruised the rest of the way for an easy 55-34 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Ashley Karpovich's game-high 17 points led Shenandoah.

For Weatherly, Alexa Figas had 14 points and Melanie Clabia followed with nine.

Shenandoah won the JV game, 44-39. Sarah Heister's 11 points led Weatherly.

Corrine Ryan scored a game-high 28 points to lead Pine Grove to a 61-25 Schuylkill League Division 1 win over visiting Panther Valley.

Ryan hit seven three-pointers in the contest with five of them coming in the first quarter.

The Cardinals also received 15 points from Kelly Fidler. For PV, Dana McFadden and Brittany Cunfer each scored five points.

Pine Grove also won the JV game, 37-26.

Lynch had a game high 24 points for Jim Thorpe while Hareston added 15 points.

Tanner Kehl had 18 points to lead four double-figure scorers for the Raiders (7-10). Matt Yeakel added 13 points, Derek Rottet had 12 points, and Dalton Nunemacher chipped in 11.

8TH GRADE

Tamaqua-Sch. Haven

Tamaqua posted a 37-24 win over Schuylkill Haven.

The Raiders (13-5) were led by Mike Weinert with 13 points.

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Tamaqua beat Jim Thorpe, 45-12.

Brian Leibensperger and Adam Bates each had eight points to lead the Raiders (14-5).

Baombolia led the Olympians with eight points.

Pleasant Vy.-ES South

Pleasant Valley beat up on East Stroudsburg South, 63-21.

Marquis Brown led the Bears (9-3) with 20 points. Sam Newhall added 12.

7TH GRADE

Tamaqua-Sch. Haven

Tamaqua topped Schuylkill Haven, 36-23.

Brett Kosciolek had the hot hand for the Raiders pouring in 17 points.

Pleasant Vy.-ES South

Pleasant Valley outscored East Stroudsburg South in every quarter and went on to win, 41-14.

Brian Joseph paced the Bears (10-2) with 10 points.

7TH-8TH GRADE

Weatherly-No. Schuy.

North Schuylkill downed the Wreckers in junior high action by a 37-31 final score.

Leading the way for the Wreckers in scoring were Brett Kelly and Nick Miller with 11 points apiece.
