Seitz Bros. is in looking to make this Christmas a bed bug free holiday for someone in need, rather than a humbug.
The Hometown termite and pest control company, which is located at its new corporate headquarters on Route 309 north of Tamaqua, is offering a free heat treatment to a need person whose home is infested by the insects.
"We want to give something back to the community this Christmas," said Brian Seitz, president of Seitz Bros. "We have been approached by people who want to rid their homes of bed bugs but find they can't afford it."
Seitz said the cost of the heat treatments begins around $1,200, with the average cost at about $2,000.
"This holiday season we are looking to provide a bed bug heat treatment for someone who is suffering from a bed bug infestation and does not have the means to improve their situation," said Jim Hearity, regional manager for Seitz Bros.
"Bed bugs can be very expensive to eliminate. We wanted to provide some relief to someone in need so that they can use their money to create a happier holiday without the frustration of dealing with bed bugs."
Seitz said his company is using the heat treatments to eliminate bed bugs, rather than using chemicals.
In order to be considered for the free service, those interested must write a letter explaining their situation and why they or someone they want to recommend are in need.
The letters can be handwritten or electronic, and each will be reviewed by a committee of the company's employees, said Seitz.
Anyone intested in participating in this program or who wishes to recommend someone can write to Seitz Bros., 83 Claremont Avenue, Tamaqua, PA 18252 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The deadline for consideration for the free bed bug service is Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
