Driver facing DUI after crash today

A Schuylkill Count driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 2:30 a.m. today. State police at Frackville said the crash occurred along Mountain Road in Blythe Township.

Troopers said Stephen Stripe, 47, of New Ringgold, was operating a 2002 Toyota Tundra truck eastbound when he lost control. The truck traveled to the right and spun clockwise then impacted with a dirt embankment. After impact with the embankment the truck rolled over and came to rest on its driver's side blocking both lanes of travel.Stripe, who was injured, was found to be under the influence of alcohol, troopers said. He was taken by medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of injuries. The DUI charge is pending blood test results, troopers added. Damages were moderate to the truck.Assisting troopers at the scene were volunteers from the New Philadelphia, Kaska and Middleport fire companies.
