Rig driver facing charges

A tractor trailer rig driver is facing charges following an incident that occurred along Interstate 81 in West Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County, about 7:15 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26.

State police at Frackville said a 2003 Ford E350 van was parked along the bern with the driver behind the wheel waiting for a tow truck. Keith L. Fields, 48, of Ellicott City, Md., driving a 2005 Freightliner tractor with trailer southbound left the road and the passenger side mirror struck the van's mirror.After impact the Fields continued south without stopping as required by law. Fields continued south and stopped at a truck stop in Pine Grove. He then contacted state police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks and attempted to report that he had been a vcitim of a hit and run in the parking lot at the truck stop.Troopers said Fields will be charged with accidents involving damage to attended vehicle, which is a misdemeanor three offense, plus false reports and several summary motor vehicle code violations.The van driver, Philip J. Bozek, 51, of Mountain Top, was not injured in the incident, troopers said.
