Storm sewer project could cost $149,000

A storm sewer project could cost Slatington over $149,000.

Four companies turned in bids to the borough on Tuesday, with Livengood Excavators, Inc., Walnutport, submitting the apparent low bid of $149,114.That estimate was $2,399 less than the next lowest bid of $151,513 submitted by Dirt Work Solution, LLC, Slatington. Grand Prix Excavating, of Tamaqua, bid $159,630, while Hilltop Excavating Inc., of Walnutport, bid $161,256.Each of the companies also submitted three alternates as part of their bid package. The borough rebid the project one month after six estimates were initially received for the Fifth Street storm sewer and 2010 Street Improvements projects. However, all prior bids opened on July 12 remain open, valid and under consideration at this time.Borough Manager Stephen Salvesen said the project is being funded with federal Community Development Block Grant Recovery funds. Salvesen said the borough has $310,000 in CDBG funds to pay for the project. The project involves the installation of storm sewer pipe along Fifth Street between West Church Street and West Washington Avenue, and along West Church Street from a point about halfway between Kern Alley and Field Alley east to East Church Street. The storm sewer line will tie into the existing storm sewer management system.
