The Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission (ESRC) recently hosted its annual summer volleyball league championship match with Sandstorm claiming its first ever ESRC championship.

Sandstorm defeated top-seeded Valley Athletic Supply in the best-of-five series, 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23. Second-seeded Sandstorm, who advanced into the championship by defeating Volleyball Cronies earlier in the day, took control of the first two games, and then rallied in the fourth game behind two key blocks from Kyle Nevenglosky to claim the title.

Sandstorm was led by Matt Stewart's 14 kills, while Mark Streisal (13 kills) and Nevenglosky (9 kills) also factored in the victory. Christa Mantz recorded 16 assists for Sandstorm and Demi Ogozalek added seven assists. Mantz also chipped in with three aces.

TJ O'Connor had a game-high 25 kills for Valley Athletic Supply, while Allison Eberly dished off 14 assists.
