The North and Middle Ward Playground will wrap up the summer with an end of season dance party on Aug. 20. The event will be held at the playground, located on Washington Street, from 6-9 p.m.
DJ Mixx will provide musical entertainment. Festivities will include a "silly band" swap and a dance contest. Silly bands, food and slushies will be available.
The Tamaqua American legion Riders group is sponsoring a free bus trip to Washington, D.C. for local veterans on Sept. 11. Participation is open to Tamaqua and Coaldale veterans.
Seating is limited, so first come, first served. A small security deposit is required, but will be returned the day of the trip.

Wednesday is the day for curbside recycling pickup for all residents of Tamaqua.
All recyclable items must be placed in the containers issued to each borough household. Any other containers, such as plastic bags and cardboard boxes, will be emptied and left behind.
Anyone who needs a recycling container may contact borough hall at (570) 668-3444.
Collection bins for cardboard have been moved to the Tamaqua Transfer Station on Sewage Treatment Plant Road.
Collection bins for newspaper can be found at the Tamaqua Borough Garage on East Broad Street.
The St. Jerome's Parish Finance Committee will meet today, at 7 p.m.
An altar server meeting will be held Aug. 19, at 6 p.m., in the church. A follow up session for new altar servers will be held Aug. 26 at 6 p.m.
Monday's movie night at the Tamaqua East End Playground was postponed due to the weather. The film "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" will be presented on this evening, Aug. 17. The PG rated movie will begin at 8:30 p.m.
