A Northern Lehigh Middle School student has been expelled for the first semester of this school term.
The school board unanimously agreed on Monday to expel the student, a male, following the Findings of Fact and Conclusion of Law and recommendation of the Hearing Committee earlier in the day.
The recommendation is to expel student #1490011, for whom the hearing was conducted, from school attendance for the first semester of the 2010-11 school year, as per the adopted school calendar.
However, board President Edward Hartman said the student could have the expulsion cut in half and be permitted to attend school at some point.
"If the young man does an exceptional job, he could have it reduced," Hartman said. "It will be reviewed by administration."
The student may be permitted to attend school, provided that in the judgment of the middle school principal - after consultation with teachers and school counselors - the student has participated, made satisfactory effort, and attained satisfactory progress in the educational program provided during the period of expulsion from school attendance.
The expulsion is a result of violation of school board policy 218.2 - Terroristic Threats/Acts.
