Vandals target Wal-Mart site, dumping nails

Repeated acts of criminal vandalism have been occurring at the new Wal-Mart construction site in Mahoning Township.

According to Chief of Police Kenneth Barnes of Mahoning Township, heavy-duty roofing nails have been dumped on the driveway at the site,Barnes said he was informed by the construction site supervisor of Hazleton Site Contractors that for the past two or three weeks, approximately every other day, the nails were dumped.Barnes was informed that at least 10 vehicles got flat tires from the nails.Police will be stepping up checks of the site. Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at (570) 386-2241.The construction site is along Route 443 in Mahoning Township, about a half mile from the present Wal-Mart store.The new Wal-Mart is scheduled for an October opening.
