The Tamaqua Area High School Academic Competition Team recently competed in the Schuylkill County Academic Competition held at Pine Grove Area High School on Thursday, March 25,.

Compiling a 2-0 record in the opening rounds of competition by defeating teams from Tri-Valley and Pine Grove, Tamaqua entered the bracket round seeded third and matched with three time defending champions, Pottsville.

After an exciting match, Tamaqua emerged with a 65-60 victory to earn a spot in the finals to face Blue Mountain.

Blue Mountain won the final match by a score of 75-60 to advance to the state tournament. This appearance in the finals was the first for Tamaqua in at least 10 years.

Members of the 2010 Academic Competition Team include: seniors, Zoe Grey and Joe Rudy, juniors, Kyle Cunningham, Schuyler Schmidt and Victoria Stahl, sophomore Sam DePue, and freshmen Tyler Butkus and Joe Franko. The team is coached by Eric Lech.
