Jim Thorpe's Dillon Smith was named the District 11 Class AA Wrestling Scholar-Athlete for the 2009-10 season. Smith, a senior, received the award at a recent banquet in Allentown that honored wrestling Scholar-Athletes from throughout the district. On the mat, Smith compiled a 35-12 record this year. He finished third in District 11, fourth in the Southeast Regional and qualified for States. He finished his Olympian career with 140 victories. In the classroom, Smith has a culmulative GPA of 103.793 and is ranked fifth in a class of 156. He will be heading to Lehigh University in the fall to continue his academic and wrestling careers. Smith's extra-curicular activities include vice-president of student council and treasurer of Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD). He is also a member of the both the Student Forum and the National Honor Society.
