Tigers sweep No. Lehigh

Behind the stellar performances of Joseph Hall and Nicole Taschler, the Northwestern track team took both meets from the Northern Lehigh Thursday afternoon in Slatington.

In the boys 102-48 win, Hall duplicated a feat achieved earlier in the week at Southern Lehigh by winning four field events."He's got quite a few points already, by far above and beyond everyone else," head coach Brian Xander said.Hall was clearly the best in his four events with an impressive run at the high jump yesterday. Hall, battling Northern Lehigh freshman Caleb Johnson and fellow Tiger Trevor German, topped out at 6'5", one shy of his personal best."He's turned into quite the athlete," Xander said. "He works really hard to get to the top. He's come a long way."Getting better each day, his discuss rose from the 120s in the beginning of the season to 144-2 yesterday. His Javelin has been consistent with two winning times this week in the 170s, just short of his best (181) registered earlier at WilsonHall, who started shot put this year, also won that event with a throw of 43-2."He just started the shot-put just before the first meet," Xander said. "He got up and punched it the first time over 40 feet and [we said], 'You need to be on there.'"Hall will be chasing the school high jump record of 6-8 14."I think by the end of the year he'll have that record," Xander said.Tim East, the school record holder in the 300 hurdles, won that event and two others while German had a particularly good day, hitting 6-2 in the high jump for second place. German out-sprinted Northern Lehigh first-year runner Cody Remaley."He was really looking forward to run against Cody Remaley today and he was pumped to get that win," Xander said.Remaley has added a jump to his Bulldog teammates. As a member of the 4x100, the team is working hard to place in the post season."Remaley has been a real nice addition to this team in the sprints." Northern Lehigh coach Michael Lehtonen said of his 4x100 team that includes Remaley.Northern Lehigh's Zach Flemming continued his quest with to return to states with two solid wins in the 1600 and 3200 distance events."We have a couple of tough meets left against Bangor and Palmerton," Xander said of his team that improved to 7-1 on the year. "We hope that we can put everything together and strategically place people and get them to where they will score points."The girls toppled their rivals with 94.5 to 55.5 score.Taschler led the way as Northwestern ran away with the track events. Taschler won the 100- and 200-meter sprints and was on two winning relay teams. Megan Handwerk also won two events (800, 1600) and ran on two winch value\=\"226 129 132\"/=@Normal=[S"","Normal","Normal"]@Body.Normal=[S"","Body.Normal"]@Body.bd.cntr=[S"","Body.bd.cntr"]ning relaysThe most exciting event of the day was the girls 300 hurdles. Aimee Oertner won the Discuss with a throw of 93-5 and placed second in the shot put."We've been bouncing Aimee around, still finding events for her as the year goes on." coach Lehtonen said.
